The annual Preeceville Children’s Winter Festival will be held at the Preeceville Arena grounds on January 30, which will be run in conjunction with the Mushers’ Rendezvous.

“We are excited to be organizing so many events especially for the kids,” said Andrea Tonn, recreation director. “This year, we will be building an outdoor jam can curling rink. Bring your family and friends out to try the sport the old fashioned way. There is another new event being held this year and this will be Outdoor Outhouse races. Yes you read correctly, outhouse races. We are looking for teams of three or more to have some fun with this new activity. A lightweight version of outhouses will be constructed in advance and set on skies. There is no need to bring your own as outhouses will be provided for the races. We require one person to be inside while at least two members of your team will push. We would like teams to enter in advance. The first race will start Saturday at 12:30 p.m. with more races to follow depending on number of entries. Prizes will be awarded for the winning teams and building team spirit is encouraged.”

There will be snow plane rides offered from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The snow plane tours will show off the beautiful scenery that Preeceville has to offer.

The big sliding hill will once again be available for everyone to enjoy sliding sports all weekend. There will also be an outdoor snow golf area. Golf season is just around the corner so come and check out the new winter greens and get practised up for spring.

“If you are looking for something to do individually, come try out our snowshoes and take a walk in the area or maybe you can even encourage someone to race you. If you prefer a warm activity, try your hand at indoor floor curling at the skating arena. A recreational four-on-four hockey tournament is being organized for Saturday at the skating arena. This is open to bantam-aged players and older. Entry fee is $20 per person,” said Tonn. “Times will be decided depending on number of entries. Please bring your kids out to enjoy these attractions and many more. Hot chocolate and treats will be provided for the kids when they participate in different activities.”

The Preeceville Figure Skating Club will be presenting its annual ice carnival – Welcome to the Jungle on March 18. Desserts and coffee will be provided. The figure skating club is once again offering a 50/50 raffle in which there is a guaranteed prize of at least $2,500. Tickets will be sold in February with the winning tickets to be drawn on March 18 in the Preeceville skating arena.
