Canora Skating Club presents “A Blast from the Past”

The season wrapped up on March 6 when the Canora Skating Club presented its annual ice carnival to the theme of “A Blast from the Past.” Most of the groups performed two numbers on the ice.

            Skating to American Pie and then to Magic Carpet Ride were: Abigail Boulanger, Karter Shukin, Chloe Doogan, Yuri Olynyk, Angel Sliva and Maddix Sawka.

            Courtney Sheptak and Haydyn Parmley skated to Blue Suede Shoes.

            Skating to Greased Lightning and then Hit the Road Jack were: Reid Kitchen, Zarin Godhe, Preston Tratch, Caden Doogan, Samuel Collingridge, Ashton Strelioff, Matthew Knox, Logan Bakke and Mason Reine.

            Andew Sliva, William Sliva and Reein Godhe skated to Great Balls of Fire and then to Blinded by the Light.

            Kaira Kuhn and Irena Yannoulis skated to I’ve Got You Babe and My Girl.

            Mya Wolos and Elley Tomcala skated to Lollipop.

            Skating to Sugar Shack and Be Bop a Lula were: Natalie St.Mars, Addison Dutchak, Mahra Collingridge, Rhianna Stefanyshyn, Luca Propp, Isabelle Chabun, Madison Dutchak and Mikayla Tratch.

            Skating to Sweet Home Alabama and Stop in the Name of Love were: Mya Wolos, Kaylie Donovan, Drea Beblow, Brooklyn Reine and Haydyn Parmley.

            Skating to Tutti Fruitti and Leader of the Pack were: Brenna Reine, Mary Bakke, Zennia Lukey, Addison Burym, Kaelyn Shukin, Maisie Kuzminski and Heidi Parmley.

             The Star Skate Girls, which includes Brookelyn Tratch, Jordelle Lewchuk, Maranda Donovan, Elley Tomcala, Courtney Sheptak-Bevear and Leona Kitchen, skated to You’re the One That I Want.

            With Leona Kitchen as the main instructor, assisting with instruction were: Maranda Donovan, Brookelyn Tratch, Jordelle Lewchuk, Courtney Sheptak, Jesse Biletski, Kayla Sheptak, Elley Tomcala and Durban Hleboff.

            Guest skaters at the ice carnival were: Nikki Nagy, a 15-year-old member of Skate Yorkton, who is a member of the Skate Saskatchewan High Performance Elite Team; and Sydney Kotzer of Yorkton, an 11-year-old member of the Skate Saskatchewan High Performance Team.

            For the finale, all the Canora Skating Club members skated to Rockin’ Robin and Save the Last Dance for Me.

Awards and presentations

            The program concluded with a number of awards being presented.

            Isabelle Chabun received the coach’s choice award.

            William Sliva received the most-sportsmanlike award.

            Luca Propp and Irena Yannoulis shared the BMO Canskate Champion award.

            Mathew Knox received the award for the BMO Canskater of the year.

            Preston Tratch and Drea Beblow received the most-improved skater awards.

            Jessie Beletski and Durban Hleboff shared the leadership award.

            The Spirit-of-Skating Award was presented to Maddix Sawka, Natalie St. Mars, Kaelyn Shukin and Mason Reine.

            The Achievement Award was presented to Logan Bakke, Addison Burym and Madison Dutchuk.

            The award for most-dedicated skater was presented to Jordelle Lewchuk.

            The Star Skater Award was presented to Brookelyn Tratch.

            With Leona Kitchen as the club’s coach, members of the executive are: Shyla Yannoulis, president; Alyssa Lukey, vice-president; Allana Lewchuk, treasurer; Cheri Kuhn, secretary; and Crystal Reine, registrar.
