A Canora resident and baseball player with the Yorkton Cardinals has been named the Top Pitcher of the Year for 2016.
Kody Rock, whose family runs the Canora Golf and Country Club, was congratulated for winning the award of Top Pitcher of the Year by the Western Major Baseball League. Rock was also named a First Team All-Star for his pitching with the Cardinals.
Prior to winning the top award, Rock won the Player of the Week award for July 11, due to his consistent pitching and the fact that he is the league’s leader in swinging strikeouts.
Rock, who has been playing baseball since he was four years old, helped lead the Yorkton Cardinals to a spot in the East Division playoffs. The Cardinals are against the Regina Red Sox in a five-game series.
The Western Major Baseball League awards are presented to eligible players based on the decision of each head coach in the league. The Western Major Baseball League issued congratulations to all of the players chosen on their website.
