Yorkton Tribal Council cut the ribbon on new offices today (Friday).
The locally centered tribal group have moved into what was formerly Fairview School, and more recently school division offices.
Now the facility houses the office of YTC鈥檚 Tribal Chief as well as health, education, justice, and technical services. In total a staff of 45 will call the refurbished building home.
鈥淭his is our new home. There鈥檚 nothing more exciting that getting a new home,鈥 said Tribal Chief Isabelle O鈥橲oup.
Yorkton MLA Greg Ottenbreit said the opening was indeed a notable affair, calling it 鈥渁n historic event.
鈥淚t鈥檚 amazing to see the Tribal Council; how it鈥檚 built its organization.鈥
Ottenbreit said it was good the building has a new use.
鈥淭his beautiful building, I鈥檓 just so happy it鈥檚 been repurposed in this way,鈥 he said.
The new offices, while welcome, are not the end of development for YTC, said O鈥橲oup.
鈥淲e have a lot more work and effort ... in the city of Yorkton. This is just a starting place,鈥 she said.
Yorkton Mayor Bob Maloney noted YTC is already having a significant impact in the city. He said they are already 鈥渙ne of the biggest employers in Yorkton,鈥 adding 鈥渘ot many people are aware of that.鈥
Mike Stackhouse, president of the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce picked up on the theme of YTC鈥檚 economic impact locally noting the organization makes 鈥渁 significant contribution to the local economy.... It鈥檚 invaluable ... the contribution they make to our city.鈥
After an official ribbon cutting those in attendance were invited inside for tours of the new offices, and to partake in a roast beef dinner.
