Last night at approximately 8:00 p.m., Yorkton RCMP, Fire and EMS were called to a collision on Highway 16 near Springside, SK, that involved a semi-truck and an SUV. We would just like to clarify that there was no third vehicle involved as was first reported.
Initial investigation has revealed that the semi was heading westbound when it collided with an eastbound SUV. The driver of the SUV was killed as a result of the collision. The driver of the semi-truck sustained minor injuries and was treated at hospital in Yorkton and has since been released.
The highway was closed for several hours while the collision was being investigated. It re-opened at approximately 6:30 a.m. today. The Department of Highways assisted in the closure and re-routing of traffic around the scene.
At this time, efforts are ongoing to identify the lone occupant of the SUV and notify their next of kin. The investigation remains ongoing.
