Together with provincial, territorial and local Chambers of Commerce from across Canada, the Yorkton Chamber participated in a conference call hosted by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce to discuss the mounting economic damage being caused by the ongoing rail disruptions.
The Honourable Perrin Beatty, President and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce indicated that during the call, Chambers shared their stories of layoffs in their communities and depleted inventories. There is a rapidly increasing risk that essential supplies like grain for livestock, oxygen for hospitals and propane for residential heating will not be sufficient.
In response, the Yorkton Chamber will be reaching out to local officials such as the MP, MLA and Mayor to discuss these concerns, stress the need to increase efforts to achieve Indigenous reconciliation and press for engagement by the provincial government, Indigenous leaders and law enforcement agencies to end the blockades.
The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce is the 鈥渧oice of business in Yorkton鈥, representing more than 460 businesses.
