The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce joins the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce in expressing its disappointment in the Supreme Court of Canada ruling which found the federal government鈥檚 carbon tax constitutional.
The Yorkton Chamber is greatly concerned about the impact the carbon tax has on the local economy. The tax is costly to our business community and those rising costs will be transferred to the consumers.
鈥淎s the carbon tax leaves fewer dollars in the wallets of consumers, the consumers have fewer dollars to spend on local goods and services鈥, said Marty Sveinbjornson, President of the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce. 鈥淭he carbon tax strains an already tough economy created by the pandemic鈥.
The Yorkton Chamber supports the Sask Chamber鈥檚 report on building a low carbon economy where the eighteen recommendations contained within the report support the move to finding ways for businesses to become less reliant on carbon while protecting the local economy.
