Vehicle impounded, driver charged for speed of 180 km/hr

A 73-year-old male from Edmonton had his driver’s license suspended and his vehicle impounded during a traffic stop this past Saturday just west of North Battleford on Highway 16.

On March 14, 2020, at approximately 12:40 p.m., North Battleford RCMP received multiple reports of a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was travelling eastbound on Highway 16 near Delmas, just west of North Battleford. An officer of the Saskatchewan RCMP North Battleford Traffic Services located the vehicle and determined via radar that the vehicle was driving at a speed of 180 km/hr.

The 73-year-old driver was charged under the Traffic Safety Act for Speeding in Excess of 50 km/hr over the posted speed limit. The driver was issued a Summary Offence Ticket in the amount of $1022. The driver also had his driver’s license suspended for three days in Saskatchewan and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
