Summer student teaching about nature

With Yellowhead Flyway Birding Trail Association

Summer student Talia Fawcett is back for a second season with the Yellowhead Flyway Birding Trail Association.

In here first summer, 2019, Fawcett was instrumental in doubling the number of people the program typically has contact with in a term.

This summer she has brought to the program exceptional online content and now that it is again allowed face-to-face programming depending on what groups are comfortable聽with doing.

鈥淭his summer I have been in the Yorkton area for the month of July,鈥 said Fawcett. 鈥淚 have been visiting different daycares, the Boys and Girls Club of Yorkton, Yorkton Family Resource Centre, Yorkton Parks and Recreation, and a few different libraries delivering outdoor children's programming about Saskatchewan plants and animals.

鈥淭hese events have been pre-recorded, through Zoom, or face-to-face - depending on the need of each group.鈥

Much of the programming has been youth-oriented but Fawcett has had other responsibilities too.

鈥淎long with these children's programs, I am also sending out a weekly activity through our blog and Facebook page that focuses on one theme; a Saskatchewan plant or animal each time.聽

鈥淚 have also been delivering videos each Monday in July to three different care homes in the area. These videos centre around Saskatchewan birds, plants, and animals.鈥

While Fawcett is only with the group until Aug. 11, she will remain active in her educational role.

From Aug. 4-to-7 Fawcett will be at the YorktonFamily Resource Center for Nature Exploration Camps at 3 p.m. daily.

Also on Aug. 4 Fawcett will be doing a Colour Scavenger Hunt at聽the Springside Public Library at 10:30 a.m.
