For the month of May, seniors 60+ will be able to ride anywhere within the Saskatchewan Transportation Company's network for $10 one-way.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for seniors to experience the excellent service of STC while travelling our beautiful province for a very low cost," STC Acting President and CEO Shawn Grice said in announcing the first seat sale of 2010.

STC reaches 290 communities with passenger and freight services. The extensive coverage STC provides affords Saskatchewan seniors province-wide access to this offer.

"We want as many people as possible to experience the comfort, cleanliness, environmental-friendliness and efficiency of bus travel," Grice said. "With this sale, seniors can sit back and enjoy the ride."

STC offered a similar promotion for seniors in September 2009 to great success. A 227 per cent increase in senior ridership occurred during last year's sale. Overall ridership rose by 40 per cent.

"This offer builds on the momentum of last year's promotion," Grice said. "It is a way of reaching out to one of our major customer bases to promote the positive experience of bus travel."

Transport Canada reports bus travel as having the lowest social cost (air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, noise, road congestion and accidents) per kilometer than any other form of transportation.
