Scott Sharpe is one of the newcomers on the ballot for Yorkton Council in the upcoming municipal election in November.
Sharpe said he is running because he believes 鈥渋n this city and the people.鈥
In a release to Yorkton This Week the 39-year-old also suggests his background can be an asset.聽
Sharpe spent the first part of his career working on a social work degree while working in human services, including SIGN, working with both at risk youth and in metal health.聽
In 2007 he started his electrical career, as a journeymen electrician, working in both the public and private sectors.聽聽
Sharpe currently聽works as maintenance聽electrician聽at Yorkton Reginal Health Center.聽
鈥淚 believe聽my construction聽and maintenance聽background will add value to the council聽table,鈥 he said.
Sharpe said the ongoing pandemic was the impetus for his decision to seek election to Council.
"The impact from COVID is still being felt and will for some time, and may get worse before it gets better,鈥 he said.聽
鈥淭he belief聽that will drive all of my actions will be, supporting the local small business community, asking and helping them to support our local non-profits and charities as they serve so many and like most are struggling financially right now,鈥 he said.
As for how to do that, Sharpe said it starts by listening to the community, suggesting 鈥測ou find local solutions to local problems by engaging the citizens of Yorkton.

Sharpe is a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in the city and has lived in Yorkton for 33-years. He is married with two children.
