The Saltcoats Historical Society is set to present Legends - Country, Soul, and Rock 鈥榥 Roll Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Anne Portnuff Theatre in Yorkton.
This dynamic group anchored by Saltcoats native, Devra Straker, includes four other professional vocalists, and this year will be accompanied by a four piece band featuring some of the most talented musicians in Saskatchewan.
This group brings the energy, the laughs, the hits, all with their incomparable vocal talents and stage presence.
The crowd favourites of Patsy Cline and Pavarotti will grace the stage, as well as newcomers KD Lang, Tommy Hunter, Trooper, Queen and more.
As for the star, Straker was raised in Saltcoats, Sask. and has been working in professional theatre for over two decades with such credits as Patsy Cline in A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline Story, June Carter Cash in Ring of Fire, Rocky Horror Show and Jesus Christ Superstar.
Straker was also chosen to sing for Prince Edward and Countess Sophie to mark the 50th Anniversary of Regina鈥檚 Globe Theatre.
In addition, Christine Bandelow grew up in Calgary, Alberta. She trained in dance, music and theatre in Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto. She has worked in many professional productions as a dancer, singer, actor and choreographer in theatres across Canada and the United States and is very grateful to her family for their constant support.
Bandelow now calls Edmonton home.
Kevin Dabbs had lived in Edmonton, Alberta for 25-years but was born and raised in 鈥榃interpeg, Manitscolda鈥. He has acted, sang, danced and played the drums professionally all over North America for thirty years and is so excited to work with this amazingly talented group of actors, musicians and crew.
Gerrad Everard hails from his family鈥檚 cattle and grain farm near Wawanesa, Manitoba. He has performed on four continents, over 30 states in the U.S. and right across Canada. Select credits include Million Dollar Quartet, Sister Act, The Rocky Horror Show and The Wedding Singer. 鈥淩OK 2GO鈥 marks Gerrad鈥檚 debut album - a taste of country with a rock 鈥榥 roll edge, putting a new spin on 11 legendary songs. The album is dedicated to both Canadian Farmers and Artists and will be available for purchase at the show.
Kiernan Martin Murphy hails from Westlock, Alberta and has credits including Jean Val Jean in Les Miserables, SPAMALOT, Cats, Rock of Ages and Hamlet. He plays Luciano Pavarotti in the PreTenors and was a regular on CBC Radio鈥檚 The Irrelevant Show.
