The Government of Saskatchewan announced a new vaping amendment that is designed to protect youth.
听
Health Minister Paul Merriman introduced 鈥楾he Tobacco and Vapour Products Control Amendment Regulations, 2021鈥, limiting the sale of flavoured vape products.
听
This type of regulation has effectively balanced youth protection with adult harm reduction in Ontario and British Columbia.
听
Mike Smider, the owner of Queen City Vapes in Regina, said that he is behind these new regulations 100 per cent.
听
鈥淚鈥檓 all for it. It鈥檚 something that we have been asking for a number of years now. It is limiting accessibility, but it offers more control on where the sales of these products are coming from,鈥 he said. 鈥淭he folks in vape shops we specialize in this stuff. This is what we do for a living; this is our job.鈥
听
Smider adds that anyone could have been selling vape products that will now change come September 1.
听
鈥淰apour flavoured products like strawberry and ice cream give young people the false impression that vaping is harmless when it is every bit as habit-forming as smoking,鈥 Merriman said. 鈥淏uilding upon the legislation this government introduced to regulate vape products as we do tobacco, we want to provide our youth with every opportunity to choose to be tobacco and vape-free.鈥

This restriction will not apply to tobacco and mint.
