When the final awards were handed out at the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce鈥檚 聽14th Celebrate Success Business Awards Wednesday Modern Mattress found out they were recipients of the Small Business of the Year award.
Jordan Schenher, co-owner of the business said the award was a gratifying one.
鈥淒efinitely to hear we were chosen was great. It definitely wasn鈥檛 expected from us,鈥� he said, adding 鈥渨e鈥檙e just happy to get the recognition, happy people recognize what we鈥檝e done in the community.鈥�
The award comes as sort of an anniversary present as the business marked its sixth year in the city only six days ago.
So what has been Modern Mattress鈥� secret to success the past half dozen years?
鈥淭he big secret is treating people right, doing for you clients what you tell them you will do,鈥� said Schenher, adding it is important to 鈥渄o everything you can to meet customer needs.鈥�
Going hand-in-hand with keeping customers happy is a focus on keeping employees engaged 鈥渟o they grow with us as a team,鈥� said Schenher.
So will the award help in terms of business?
Well, it can鈥檛 hurt, offered Schenher.
鈥淚t鈥檚 food for networking, and to get a little bit more recognition for us,鈥� he said, adding if 鈥減eople are talking about us,鈥� it鈥檚 typically a good thing.
As for the future, Schenher said they have a simple plan, stay on course but be ready to change when required to do so.
鈥淲e鈥檒l continue to do what we do in Yorkton,鈥� he said, adding that change is part of that. 鈥淲e try to keep evolving.鈥�
