Yorkton Regional High School students have again done well at the annual Skills Canada Provincial Competition, held this year virtually.聽聽
鈥淚n a time where normal just doesn't seem to exist, I am quite excited to get back to the routine of sharing Yorkton Regional High School's phenomenal Virtual Skills Canada Provincial Competition results like I do every spring,鈥� wrote instructor聽Chad McDowell in a release.聽聽
Students competed from across the province about three weeks ago and the results were announced late last week, with YRHS able to capture 11 medals.聽聽
鈥淣ot an easy task when you consider the limited number of competitions this year,鈥� said McDowell.聽聽聽
McDowell noted 鈥渟ome amazing accomplishments within these results鈥� including;聽聽
- YRHS Mechanics won gold, silver and bronze in Automotive Technology聽聽
- YRHS Mechanics won gold for the 7th consecutive year in Automotive Technology聽聽
- YRHS Cosmetology won six medals聽聽
- YRHS Photography has won five gold medals in the last six years聽聽
Leading the way for YHRS were a trio of gold medallists at Grade 11 students; Kaydence Young 鈥� Beauty Therapy,聽Hannah Breitkreuz 鈥� Photography, and Michael Carlson 鈥� Automotive Technology.聽聽
Breitkreuz and Carlson qualify to represent Team Saskatchewan at the National Virtual Skills Canada Competition later this month.聽聽
The local high school representatives captured five Provincial Silver Medals;聽Paul Fleger 鈥� Automotive Technology, Skylar Yurkiw 鈥� Hairstyling Long Hair, Skylar Yurkiw 鈥� Hairstyling Braiding, Jaida Smith 鈥� Beauty Therapy, and Isabelle Easton 鈥� Public Speaking.聽聽
YRHS won three Provincial Bronze Medals; Avery Wilkins 鈥� Hairstyling Long Hair, Tyana Daigneault 鈥� Photography, and Taylor Greba 鈥� Automotive Technology.聽聽
鈥淚 am extremely proud that YRHS is a school that offers diverse high-quality PAA programming for a variety of students,鈥� said McDowell in the release. 鈥淵RHS Cosmetology for creative students -- mostly female - looking to get into the trades, Photography for creative students who like technology, and Mechanics for hands-on students - mostly male - looking to get into the trades, are consistently proving themselves to be among the best programs in the country. 聽聽
鈥淗ats off to Carmella, myself and Don for not settling for a good program, but rather constantly striving for an elite program.鈥�
