Local COVID‐19 spread moves SIGN back to online services

The Society for the Involvement of Good Neighbours (SIGN) in Yorkton is going back to offering services online for at least two weeks due to the increasing numbers of COVID‐19 cases in Yorkton and surrounding communities.

Executive Director Andrew Sedley stated, “We believe that this approach will assist our communities, our clients and our staff to be supported and healthy through these uncertain times.”  

The change took effect today, after community transmission resulted in the Saskatchewan Health Authority issuing alerts about cases in Yorkton and area, and the closing of many healthcare facilities.

“SIGN will be reducing face‐to‐face services and offering virtual and telephone support to individuals. It is our hope that we will be able to return to in‐person services on October 20,” Sedley added.

“The health and safety of our clients, our staff and our communities are our number one concern and help shape our decision making.”

Face‐to‐face services resumed on Sept. 21, including the re‐opening of SIGN locations in Yorkton, while implementing strict COVID‐19 measures. SIGN provides 24 programs and services to Yorkton and surrounding communities. Staff primarily worked from home during the previous shutdown, meeting with clients by telephone and online.

Several programs had remained open throughout the various stages of shutdown, including the Senior Mobility Service, the Early Learning Centre (daycare), and the Adolescent Group Home. Those will continue to operate face‐to‐face, as will the Before and After School programs in four Yorkton schools.
