Conservative candidate Dr. Robert Kitchen handily won his seat to represent Souris-Moose Mountain in the federal election with 84.4 per cent of the vote, or 33,932 votes of the 40,180 ballots cast.
As of late Monday night, all of the local polls had reported, but two ballots which count votes from overseas had not yet reported.
Coming in second in the riding was the NDP candidate, Ashlee Hicks, with 3,096 votes or 7.7 per cent of the support, followed by the Liberal candidate, Javin Ames-Sinclair, in third with 1,658 votes of 4.1 per cent of the vote.
Phillip Zajac of the People’s Party received 675 votes or 1.7 per cent; Judy Mergel of the Green Party received 653 votes or 1.6 per cent, and Travis Patron of the Canadian Nationalist Party received 166 votes or 0.4 per cent.
A total of 30,962 ballots were cast on election day, while 9,218 votes were marked in advance polls.
At the national level, the Liberals had 156 seats for a minority government, the Conservatives had 122 seats, the Bloc Quebecois had 32, the NDP had 24, the Greens had three seats, and there was one independent elected, Judy Wilson-Raybould.
In terms of the popular vote, the Conservatives had more votes than the Liberals did, with 34.5 per cent of ballots cast for Andrew Scheer compared to 33 per cent for Trudeau’s party.
