Karey Harris is the Acro Educator for the 2020-2021 season with Sask Express.
Harris will be recognizable to many readers after teaching in the Christ the Teacher Catholic School Division from 2009 鈥 2012, and for her involvement with Yorkton Film Festival.
Harris is also a rhythmic gymnastics coach with extensive experience, involvement, and training in the sport. She has worked with athletes of all ages and levels, is an NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) Level 3 certified coach, Learning Foundations course conductor and co-founder and creator of the Challenge Cup competition in Saskatchewan.
Throughout her career, Harris has been involved in coaching, choreographing, and adjudicating rhythmics, serving on local, provincial, and national boards, and operating two rhythmic gymnastics clubs.
The new position is an exciting one, offered Harris.
鈥淚t鈥檚 basically looking after the program; a lot of teaching, mentoring, coaching,鈥 she said.
The exciting aspect is the way the position brings education, rhythmic gymnastics instruction and dance all together, said Harris.
鈥淚t entwines all the disciplines together,鈥 she said, both for members of Sask Express and for her as Acro Educator.
That is of course at the heart of rhythmic gymnastics where Harris has been involved for years, the blending of gymnastics and the art of dance into something else.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a sport, but it鈥檚 also very much an art,鈥 she said, adding that is an element she can bring to Sask Express performers.
Harris also remains involved in education as an elementary school principal in Regina.
