Parkland College has made the difficult decision to cancel the Dollars for Scholars Golf Classic for 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The College’s 15th annual scholarship fundraising event had been scheduled for June 19 at Deer Park Golf Course in Yorkton.
The Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan announced last week that golf courses will be one of the first businesses allowed to resume operations in May. However, the Plan’s golf course guidelines note that tournaments are prohibited at this time. When combined with continuing restrictions on the size of public gatherings, it is clear that hosting the Dollars for Scholars Golf Classic is not possible this year.
In the meantime, Parkland College will look at other opportunities for golfers, sponsors, and the community to support local students. The College will also begin planning for the 2021 Dollars for Scholars Golf Classic.
Since its inception in 2006, the Dollars for Scholars Golf Classic has raised more than $258,000 for scholarships at Parkland College.
