Council .

鈥淲e are very pleased to be receiving this additional funding from the province as part of the government鈥檚 COVID-19 economic recovery and job creation plan,鈥 said Mayor Bob Maloney. 鈥淭his is significant funding, as our annual budget from taxes for capital projects is $4,304,000.00,鈥 he said. 鈥淐ombining this new money, with the major projects Yorkton already has underway this year, is a critical boost to our local economy during these difficult times,鈥 he said. Council agreed to spend $1.5 Million of the new funding on street paving, and $500,000 on water main replacement. Project details are being determined based on a needs assessment of all City infrastructure.

An additional $349,000 of the provincial funding will be spent on signage, lighting, landscaping and visual improvements to the city鈥檚 most important intersection at Highway 9 and Broadway Street. The Yorkton Business Improvement District (YBID) is also contributing $150,000 over three years to this project.

Once planning is complete, the various new MEEP Program projects will be tendered with most of the work expected to be done in 2021. Work under the program must be completed by March of 2022.
