Bigs organizations hoping people take up the challenge of a virtual escape room

And, raise dollars for the organization's programs in the process

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yorkton and area is launching its first ever virtual fundraiser.

With the COVID-19 pandemic still limiting large gatherings 鈥 taking Bowl for Kids Sake off the table 鈥 the organization began looking at options, explained Rayanne Buller, Mentor Coordinator.

Buller said they were looking for a fundraiser which would be 鈥渟afe鈥 for participants, but also wanting 鈥渢o make sure everyone is having fun.鈥

The solution was to offer聽 a 鈥榲irtual escape room鈥 then ask teams of five to sign up to take on the challenge of 鈥榚scaping鈥 the room, and doing it faster than other groups taking on the challenge.

Buller said she has done a couple of online escape rooms with her friends and the challenge of solving a series of puzzles can be a lot of fun for a group of friends.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a good way to test your problem solving,鈥 she said.

Businesses can also sign up a group to take on the challenge, which Buller noted can be a good team-building activity as well as fun.

When signing up 鈥 go to yorkton.bigbrothersbigsisters.ca and look under events -- team members must pledge a minimum of $30. If someone wants to participate but doesn鈥檛 have a team, they can sign up and be assigned to one, said Buller.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a good way to make some new friends,鈥 she said.

There are time slots Thursday, May 27 through Saturday, May 29 allowing teams to book into a time that works for them.

Players will be connected through Zoom, said Buller, adding players can each be at their own computer, or gather as a group, to take on the room challenge.
