Town of Kamsack adjusts fire dept. pricing to reflect costs

Under the new system, fire department services will be billed in two-hour increments, ensuring that longer operations are adequately covered financially.

KAMSACK - The Town of Kamsack is implementing changes to its fire department pricing structure to better align with operational costs. Mayor Nancy Brunt and Administrator Barry Hvidston revealed the adjustments during a recent interview with the Kamsack Times.

Under the new system, fire department services will be billed in two-hour increments, ensuring that longer operations are adequately covered financially. Administrator Hvidston said, “The only change we did regarding that was regarding the set rate on fire calls. We've now got every two hours increments,”  Mayor Brunt added, “So when we have a really long fire, it's actually being paid for, because it costs us a lot of money when they're out at a 15-hour fire compared to a two-hour fire. You know, because all the firefighters get paid and then the equipment and everything. So this will balance out our costs. They'll be covered and we're not making money on it. We're just just covering costs.”
