KAMSACK - In a recent visit to the local veterinary clinic in the Crowstand Centre on the 29th of September, Kamsack Times had the opportunity to meet with Stefanie Wilkinson and Dr. Ellen Amundsen-Case, who work tirelessly to care for the animals at the Paws and Claws shelter. The interview revolved around the challenges they face, the animals they care for, and the ongoing need for foster and adoptive parents for these furry companions.
Paws and Claws is a sanctuary for animals in need, and their mission involves rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in the area. The facility plays a vital role in the community, providing medical care and shelter to animals that have experienced trauma, abuse, or abandonment.
During the visit, Stefanie Wilkinson shared her experiences caring for the animals and highlighted a heartwarming success story of a once severely hurt animal on the path to recovery. Mumzy, a pet cat currently available for adoption at the clinic, was struck by a vehicle and taken to the clinic. She has had remarkable success. Wilkinson said, “Mumzy had been brought in by someone who ran her over with a car. Or yeah, she couldn't walk. She can walk now. She's also waiting for someone to adopt her.”
Wilkinson mentioned the challenges they face in finding suitable foster and adoptive parents for these animals, emphasizing the need for people willing to open their hearts and homes to these creatures.
The conversation also touched on the urgent need for volunteers to assist in the care of the animals and to provide them with much-needed outdoor time. The shelter encourages community involvement, and individuals willing to contribute their time and love to these animals are always welcomed.
Dr. Ellen Amundsen-Case said, “Even if people don't want to foster or adopt, they can help come and just take the dogs for a run because they like to be outside. They can’t stay in the kennel the whole day but we don't have time. Volunteers don't have to make a time, it can be, like, whenever. They don't have to make a regular commitment. Just stop in, and they don't have to clean anything. Just walk the dogs.”
Stefanie Wilkinson added, “I take them out frequently to just go run outside. But we don't have the whole day.”
Paws and Claws is collaborating with the local fire hall to organize an adoption event, aiming to find loving homes for the animals in their care.
The Paws and Claws team expressed gratitude for the continuous support from the community and urged individuals to consider adopting, fostering, or volunteering to help improve the lives of these animals.
Paws and Claws remains dedicated to its mission of giving animals a second chance at a loving and caring home, with the hope that more community members will step up to contribute to this compassionate cause.
