KAMSACK — It is a well-known fact that fostering connection and community pride is one of the benefits of hosting events in any town.
Dec. 22 is lined up to be full of family, festive fun in the community of Kamsack.
Greg Podovinnikoff, Recreation Director for Kamsack, says, “We are hoping to make this an annual event and hoping to expand the event in future years.”
The community’s recreation director said this year there are approximately 30 volunteers helping out along with the local Legion, Cadets, SERM, Town of Kamsack Mayor, council and staff, Affinity Credit Union, IDA, Victim Services and the Kamsack Fire Department.
“We are accepting non perishable food donations that will be donated to needy families within the community and the Fire Department is also accepting pet food, blankets and toys in a ‘Fill the Bowl’ event for pets a, long with a pet adoption that coincides with Paws and Claws Day at the Broda Sportsplex. Kamsack Fire Department will also be manning the bonfire being held in the arena parking lot,” adds Podovinnikoff.
Participants can enjoy free hot chocolate and hot dogs at the arena, with a bingo at the Legion Hall for all ages. Dustin Wilson will also be set up with a holiday photo booth for another fun addition to the day’s activity.
The rec. director acknowledges donations from a number of community businesses, people and organizations in helping make this event possible.
A full slate of events is running in the town to engage residents in community camaraderie and Christmas cheer.
Participants have multiple opportunities to take part in their favourite winter sports as there are times lined up to skate, play shinny, or curling at the Broda Sportsplex. Times are allotted for the little people, as well as school age kids, teens and adults to be sure to check out the community poster or the Town’s Facebook page for details o you don’t miss out the timeline for this event. Word is Santa and the Grinch will have their skates on for this event too.
Another popular holiday tradition are gingerbread houses. Why not take part in the gingerbread house contest, with judging to commence at 4:00. Participants get to take their entry home afterwards.
Kamsack Playhouse Theatre will have an afternoon of movies starting with little people at 3 p.m., followed by school age children at 6:30 and capping off with adult times at 8:30 pm. The Kamsack Playhouse theatre is donating a portion of their confectionary back to the event so it is a whole community effort
In lieu of admission for these events, organizers are asking participants to bring food hamper and monetary donations, to be put into Co-op gift cards, for helping local families who could use a hand this holiday season.
Hometown pride will shine as residents take part in the full day of activity with their family, friends and neighbours, embracing the events that will be held as part of their community Christmas celebration. It helps people celebrate the things that make Kamsack special and glad tidings and great joy will be shared. Whether you are a full-on participant or a joyful sideline spectator, there will be plenty of opportunities to experience Christmas spirit in Kamsack the last Sunday before Christmas.
