KAMSACK — Kamsack Pickleball enthusiasts are greeting an increased number of players, have set a second day of weekly gym time and have introduced a Facebook presence.
The group had begun meeting for weekly Thursday evening sessions in the large gymnasium at the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute this fall when cooler weather had forced them indoors after having played at the courts at Duck Mountain Provincial Park.
Since beginning, a second day has been arranged, said Brenda Summers, an avid member of the Pickleball group. “We now have access to the gym on Mondays, as well as Thursdays, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.”
This continues as long as school is in session, Andrews explained. The sessions are geared towards adults, who agree to play at their own risk.
From 10 to 14 players have been showing up, she said, adding that a Facebook group has been created, called . On that page will be reminders of any upcoming events, information such as cancellations or time changes, and will provide access to players wishing to network with other players.
Persons wishing to play Pickleball at Kamsack need merely to show up Monday or Thursday evenings, she said. The group has a few extra paddles that newcomers may use and it is recommended that players wear court shoes and safety glasses.
Because a similar group of Pickleball players has begun playing in a school gymnasium in Canora, it is hoped that games between Kamsack and Canora players may be organized.
Plans are to offer Pickleball lessons in the spring.
