KAMSACK — A Kamsack man who has worked as an Emergency Medical Responder for 30 years was one of 49 Emergency Medical Services professionals to receive a Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal on Dec. 6.
Ken Thompson of Kamsack was presented with the medal by the Honourable Russ Mirasty, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, at Government House in Regina.
The Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal is a tangible way for Saskatchewan to honour Her Majesty for Her service to Canada while also recognizing the significant contributions and achievements of Saskatchewan citizens, said a release from Colleen McKay of the Paramedic Services Chiefs of Saskatchewan.
The Paramedic Services Chiefs of Saskatchewan (PSCS) are the subject matter experts on ground ambulance since 1959, representing 102 of 105 ground medical ambulance responses in Saskatchewan and has as its vision, fair access to quality paramedic services for all Saskatchewan People, said information from McKay.
PSCS is a member-based organization dedicated to maintaining high quality and accountable paramedic services in Saskatchewan, she said. “We are the voice of the profession and serve both the public and our members directly and through partnerships.”
Thompson, who has worked with Duck Mountain Ambulance Care at Kamsack for most of his 30 years as an Emergency Medical Responder, has spent about 32 years as a firefighter and has served as the chief of the Kamsack Volunteer Fire Department since 2018. He has also served as the community’s coroner for 12 years.
