KAMSACK — On Sept. 17, the Kamsack Legion hosted a barbecue alongside their annual general meeting. At the general meeting Jim Woodward, a legion member who recently was recognized for 60 years of service, was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal.
Carol Pederson, provincial president of the Saskatchewan Command of the Royal Canadian Legion, said in an interview with the Kamsack Times, “Well, I'm very honoured to be here tonight with comrade Woodward to present him with this medal. Due to both of us being sick, the presentation was delayed. It's overdue. He's done a lot for the country and the province and the branch. And he deserves to be recognized for that and we're so glad that the lieutenant governor made this medal available. Some of the work that he has done has been to search the cemeteries and find unmarked and marked veterans graves, so they can be recognized on Remembrance Day or on Decoration Day. And that's very important. One year he solicited all the stories of veterans to fill. We publish a veterans recognition book and we tell stories of veterans and he single-handedly helped us out in that way that year. And he's been involved in leadership roles in his branch. And we've appreciated it all very much.”
