KAMSACK — A Kamsack-area ski hill is looking for support as it competes in a national contest to determine Canada’s top peak.

Since January, Duck Mountain Ski Area has been competing in the Mackenzie Investments Top Peak contest to show it is Canada's most invested ski community. The winner will receive $100,000.

“Of course we stand out. We're a mountain in Saskatchewan,” said the ski hill in an entry on the contest’s website. “All organic snow. All local staff. Nestled away in the woods, is a chilled out, little-engine-that-could ski hill that keeps chugging along, supported by a host of committed staff members and volunteers.”

In the first phase of the contest, which took place from Jan. 8 to Feb. 4, Duck Mountain had to collect nominations and encourage its patrons to post Instagram videos showing them suiting up for a race, doing a fun winter game at the ski hill or performing a dance.

Out of all the ski hills that competed, the top 10 are now moving on to a nation-wide online vote to determine the top three ski hills. Duck Mountain placed tenth, the only ski hill in Canada’s Prairie Provinces to place in the top 10.

"It's always exciting to see ski communities from across Canada show how invested they are in the sport they love – and this year the enthusiasm has been incredible," said Luke Gould, president and CEO of Mackenzie Investments, in a release.

"Congratulations to the top ten teams, who have come out and shown a tremendous display of spirit, while showcasing why the sustainability of the sport is so important to them. I look forward to finding out who Canadians vote for as their top three finalists."

After the top three have been selected, a set of judges will then choose the winners, which will be announced on CBC March 9.

First place wins $100,000, second place $20,000 and third place $10,000.

Last year’s winner was White Hills Resort near Clarenville, Nfld.
