Due to a spike in positive COVID-19 numbers in the kindergarten class, Kamsack's Victoria School has moved the class to temporary remote learning.

KAMSACK - In a letter to parents and guardians, the Good Spirit School Division (GSSD) has announced that a recent surge in positive COVID-19 cases has prompted the kindergarten class in Kamsack’s Victoria School to move to remote instruction.

GSSD Director of Education/CEO, Quintin Robertson issued the following letter, dated October 17.

Dear Victoria School Families,

With the increasing number of positive COVID-19 cases connected to the kindergarten class at Victoria School, Good Spirit School Division (GSSD) has made the decision, with the support from Public Health, to move to remote instruction for kindergarten students. To provide time for the teacher to prepare for remote learning, kindergarten classes will be cancelled on Monday, October 18, 2021.

Instructional materials will be posted for the kindergarten students on Wednesday, October 20 and Friday, October 22. Tentative face-to face instruction will resume on Monday, October 25. GSSD will have a review meeting with Victoria School Administration and Public Health on Friday, October 22, 2021; further communication will be provided at the end of the day on Friday.

Grade 1 to Grade 4 classes will continue, as usual. If your child is a close contact to the case, a letter for the class will be forthcoming from Public Health. All students and staff who have been deemed a close contact to confirmed cases must follow Public Health directives.

The SHA would like our help with continuing to do our part in stopping the spread of COVID-19 by following Provincial regulations and encouraging all students and staff to remain at home when showing the slightest symptom of COVID-19.

Public Health would like to remind everyone that a positive self-testing result MUST be confirmed through a PCR test with Public Health. There is a drive-through testing site available at 276 Myrtle Avenue in Yorkton; it is open every day from 8:30 am to 3:45 pm. This decision was made with good intentions in mind…to keep students and staff safe and healthy, concluded the letter.
