Canada Day celebrated in Kamsack

Kamsack celebrated Canada Day on a sunny day filled with various activities and festivities.

KAMSACK - Kamsack celebrated Canada Day on the first of July, a sunny day filled with various activities and festivities. The annual event, which featured a diverse range of groups and organizations, provided an opportunity for residents to come together and enjoy a day of fun and togetherness.

Mayor Nancy Brunt noted that the town had welcomed different groups this year to help out with Canada Day, demonstrating their commitment to supporting various organizations within the community. She highlighted the presence of the Filipino community, the Daycare and the parents of the 633 Kamsack Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron who volunteered to barbecue.

Among the activities scheduled for the day were: mud bogs, softball games, bounce houses, beer gardens, a live performance from Rocketbilly, and fireworks after sunset.

Recreation Director Ben Sipple started by thanking everyone for their support and expressed his enthusiasm for the day's events.

Mayor Nancy Brunt then took the microphone to begin the flag raising ceremony, inviting Robert Severight to speak and play a flag raising song and an honor song with his drum.

Severight acknowledged the dark history of Canada's residential schools and stressed the importance of reconciliation and healing for Indigenous people. Severight's honour song was a memorial song to honour and remember the residential school survivors and the children who never made it home.

She emphasized Kamsack's welcoming nature, celebrating its multicultural identity and the contributions of immigrants to the community. Brunt invited everyone to join in singing O Canada as the flag was raised.
