The goat project, which is part of the Assiniboine Beef and Multi 4-H club, started its first meeting of the 2017 year by burning off some energy at the farm of Billyjoe and Quinn Townsend near Preeceville on March 18.
鈥淲e spent the afternoon goat grooming, and giving an overview of the breed and what happens near the end of their pregnancy,鈥 said Billyjoe, the leader. 鈥淭he kids took part in the evening checks of the ewes and their lambs, followed by snacks and looking over their record books.鈥
The beef club has been putting its plans in action for achievement day and for the regional competitions that will be held this summer, she said. The club members are looking forward to showing off their beef projects.
鈥淔or 2017, we have lots of exciting things planned for our club, along with a few fundraisers in the works,鈥 said Townsend. 鈥淥n May 27, the club will host its second annual Critter Cluck and Duck sale in Preeceville at the sportsground and on August 4, we have the Rural Municipality barbecue at the Legion Hall, in addition to a few other things coming up to keep an eye out for.鈥
The next meeting for the club will be a farm visit, and record books kept by members will be viewed, she said. The club will also host another book review in April for its members. In May and June, members will be preparing for their achievement day that is scheduled to be held at the end of June.聽
