History buffs got an early gift this weekend at the Yorkton Western Development Museum just in time for Heritage Week.
鈥淚t starts on the 18th going to the 22nd, but we鈥檙e kicking off Heritage Week today,鈥 laughed Solange Massicotte, Education and Public events coordinator for the museum.
鈥淭he theme is 鈥楾he Tie That Binds.鈥 It鈥檚 very broad [in scope]...tangible, but also intangible history. Tangible meaning, for example, monuments, historical buildings. Intangible things would be things like poetry, and we explore that all together.
鈥淲e have Terry Lefebvre-Prince, who is quite well known in the city of Yorkton, speaking about Christian Junget of the Northwest Mounted Police. Kay Henley, who is a very well known quilter of this area, made these beautiful quilts by hand of her family鈥檚 history of Mennonite German descent. I鈥檒l also be speaking a little bit about Scandinavian settlers --- tying up Ms. Prince鈥檚 presentation on Constable Junget who was of course from Denmark, after all.鈥
The Saskatchewan Genealogical Society was also on hand for anyone curious about their heritage, with refreshments provided.
