The Family Resource Centre, which encourages families and their small children to spend time together in a fun interactive manner, sponsored its second community play date at the Sturgis Elementary School on February 26.

"The Sturgis, Preeceville and Endeavour Family Resource Centre is grateful to have received funding from the Community Initiatives Fund to be able to continue to provide support and services to families in the area," said Karolyn Kosheluk, co-ordinator.

The theme for the play date session featured music and sound. The children had the opportunity to play with different instruments and they made shakers to take home. Kennedy Kosheluk helped with the afternoon.

"The Community Play Date incorporates a wide variety of stations that have been set up for children to explore with their parents, Karolyn Kosheluk said. Held at the Sturgis Elementary School, this monthly event is for children six years old and younger.

The play date provides an opportunity for the children and their caregivers to develop skills such as literacy, social development and gross and fine motor skills, she said. Older children are welcome at the program but activities are targeted to younger children.

Feedback from parents in the area indicated that a monthly event was better suited to their schedules and so the community play date idea was developed, said Kosheluk.

The next session is tentatively scheduled for March 19.
