Railway Avenue in Outlook became Santa Claus Lane as St. Nick made his return to town when the Outlook & District Chamber of Commerce presented Santa Claus Day on Saturday, December 1.
Arriving right on time to the Legion Hall just before noon, Santa arrived by sleigh and had a large handful of kids and families to greet him outside. As the festivities moved indoors, the lineup to meet Santa and have a picture taken with him soon spread out the door. Taking photos was Hannah Taylor of the Chamber, and making free prints for people to take home was Greg Thorstad of Thorstad Computers. After kids took photos with Santa, LCBI students oversaw a crafts and coloring station that let kids get creative, and the Outlook Bakery provided some goodies for people to enjoy. As well, you could take part in the scavenger hunt being offered, and patrons were encouraged to drop off goods to benefit the Outlook & District Food Bank.
Just outside the hall, sleigh rides were offered throughout the afternoon that allowed families to take a leisurely stroll around town amidst the frosty conditions that the weather bestowed on the area, helping to give the town a bigger ‘Christmas Village’ vibe.
Elsewhere around Outlook, the Reel Theatre offered two free screenings throughout the afternoon of the holiday hit ‘Home Alone’, and from there, the day wrapped up with the lighting of the community Christmas tree and display at the Outlook & District Heritage Museum. Although the snow started coming down and temperatures made for colder conditions, the Outlook Community Choir was on hand to belt out some holiday favorites as the area was lit up for the Christmas season.
As always, Santa Claus Day was another hit with families and people of all ages, kicking off the month of December in festive, celebratory style and ensuring that when one thinks of the 2018 Christmas season, Outlook’s annual celebration of all things ‘Merry’ is on everyone’s list, much like how everyone is always on Santa’s very own special list.
