Musical Anniversary Set to be Celebrated

A special concert this weekend, hosted by the Outlook and District Music Festival, will honor 40 years of the festival in the community. Past performers have been invited back for a concert highlighting their development as musicians and celebrating the role of music in their lives today.

The audience can look forward to performances on flute, piano, violin, and vocal solos, duets and a Chamber Choir. There will also be musical theatre numbers and speech arts in a program that will have something for everyone.

The first festival took place April 23-24, 1980 and has run continuously in the years since. Hundreds of students have participated and the event has enriched the musical scene in the community, and has helped inspire students to pursue big things.

The celebration will include performances by Dyan Robertson, Haven Rees and Julie de Moissac, Amanda Follick, Virginia and Olivia Wight, Trason Ridgewell, Floyd Childerhose, LCBI Chamber Choir, Marcia Orton, Equinox Theatre, the Wiebe Family, Zoe Stalwick and Courtney Clark, Gavin Fleck, and a couple more surprises, including musicians living in other places who have sent videos to join in the concert.

It is going to be a great afternoon of music acknowledging the past, present and future of the festival. The committee encourages students who were part of those early years to come out so their participation can be acknowledged. It would be great to see people from all four decades in attendance at this special event.

The 40th Anniversary celebration will be held Sunday, January 12 at 2:30 pm at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Everyone welcome!
