A live musical performance scheduled for Friday night, October 6 at the Terrace Dining Room in Broderick is a heck of a 鈥榞et鈥 for the local restaurant.
That鈥檚 because the talent in question is celebrated Irish tenor Emmet Cahill, who many know from the group known as Celtic Thunder.聽 The 26-year old vocalist has a steady stream of dates on his 2017 tour, including the big cities of Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Halifax, so for him to be making a stop to perform in small town Saskatchewan is considered a big deal.
鈥淪eeing more of Canada, I know there鈥檚 a strong Irish connection there,鈥 said Emmet, on the phone from Ireland with The Outlook.聽 鈥淚 get to hear a lot of stories from people, and I鈥檝e been able to see so many places.鈥
Music ran in Cahill鈥檚 family growing up in Ireland, making it almost a no-brainer that performing was something that he wanted to do at a later age.
鈥淚t was always a way of life in our household, so I knew that it was always something I wanted to do,鈥 he said.
In 2011, Emmet began touring with the international Irish music group, Celtic Thunder, enjoying numerous tours through Canada, the United States and Australia.聽 Individually and with the group, Emmet has appeared on many radio and TV shows such as PBS, QVC and the Today Show, and most notably by special invitation for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
After resuming his solo career this year, Cahill signed a major recording contract with Sony Music USA and begin work on his debut album, which resulted in 鈥楨mmet Cahill鈥檚 Ireland鈥, a mix of Irish classics and folk tunes from the countryside in which Emmet is accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland.
Cahill鈥檚 efforts have not gone unnoticed by high-end musical venues, and he is actually set to make his debut performance at the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York City next year.
With music being such an interpretive art form, Cahill hopes that people find a way to connect to his songs and make them mean something to them.
鈥淚 love people to feel a connection to the music,鈥 he said.聽 鈥淚 like picking songs that have a story there; some form of a human story like immigration, or maybe following your dreams.鈥
Performing live for audiences is something that has always given Emmet a unique perspective, as he has met a diverse group of people in his travels and always loves hearing from people after a show.
鈥淚 love the interaction with the audience because every show is different,鈥 he said.聽 鈥淚t鈥檚 pretty relaxed, and getting to know people and meeting them is something I really enjoy.聽 If I can make you laugh or make you cry, then I鈥檝e done my job!鈥
