Members of the Hiawatha Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star “were honoured” recently to host members of the grand family of Saskatchewan as well as members of the subordinate chapters of Saskatchewan for the official visit to Kamsack.

Upon arriving in Kamsack, Worthy Grand Matron Idella Barr of North Battleford, and Worthy Grand Patron Eric Rann of Biggar, were pleased to have personal visits with Nora Clyde, a 63-year member and Shirley Moore, a member for 16 years, said information from the chapter.

“It was a delightful visit for all,” the information said.

Worthy Matron Judy Stone of Hiawatha Chapter, was pleased to accompany the worthy grand matron and patron on those visits, it said.

“The evening began with a lovely meal for 33 guests, which was aptly prepared by Craig Kosokowsky of Pro-Creations Catering. The lower hall of the Masonic Temple was tastefully decorated with the chosen scriptures: Psalm 119:105; Matthew 5:16; John 8:12; Psalm 23; the effulgent sun, God’s brightest light, and the watch words love, laughter and light. Scotch thistles, wild roses, sweet peas, pussy willows and crocuses formed into wreaths hung on the walls.

“The tables were dressed with white cloths for the purity of heart, mind and spirit, topped with placemats of purple, lime green and blue. Purple represents
the high ideals of life; lime green, to look for and enjoy the humour and fun of life, and blue, symbolizing fidelity toward all mankind.

“Placed on each table were old-fashioned lanterns or lamps, motorcycles and Tinkerbell ornaments, which are the fun emblem. Kites adorned the ceiling and walls.

“The aim of this year’s grand chapter is to celebrate our heritage; to promote the good works of our beautiful order within our communities; to show pride in our order by our actions, and to be receptive to new ideas.

“All at the banquet had time for much laughter and meeting new friends.”

Following the meal, members prepared for the meeting, which was chaired by Judy Stone, the worthy matron of the chapter.

Officers were: Stan Stone, worthy patron; Nancy Leson, associate matron; Mary Welykholowa, treasurer; Milena Hollett, conductress; Sally Bishop, associate conductress; Kathleen Achtymichuk, chaplain; Vicky Tanton, marshall; Angela Bothner, Electa, and Ellie Kilmister, sentinel. Acting officers were: David Polachek, associate patron; Susan Bear, secretary; Roderick Lee, organist; Ruby Lee, Adah; Patricia Polachek, Ruth; Kathy Gordon, Esther; Maxine Greiner, Martha, and Earl Greiner, warder.

“A moving addendum written by Judy Stone was presented by the five star point officers. After each message was read, a presentation of money towards pediatric cancer, which is the worthy grand matron’s special project, was presented.”

Addressing the members, the worthy grand matron and patron were very encouraging in their comments of the continued efforts of benevolent giving and elaborated on the great need for support towards pediatric cancer patients.
