Dinsmore Students Put On 'Happy Fair'

Kids speak with the public on keys to enriching one's life

Young students from Dinsmore Composite School were on hand last week to show the public what they can do to become a happier and well-rounded human being.

On Thursday afternoon, June 15, the Grade 4 and 5 students hosted a ‘Happy Fair’ in teacher Kristin Blomert’s room, and the different exhibits from the students highlighted each ‘key’ to happiness that people can use in their everyday lives to make them feel more fulfilled.

There were ten exhibits in total, each one focusing on a selected key.  For example, Alex Elstad and Levi Lawes’ exhibit was on ‘Trying Out’, and they touched on how people could enrich their lives by trying things they’ve never done before.  Meanwhile, Abby Friesen’s exhibit was on ‘Resilience’; learning to bounce back from the downfalls in our lives and pick ourselves up so we can move on.

The other keys explored by students were ‘Direction’ by Alexis Elstad, ‘Emotion’ by Pia Sol and Tianna Hansen, ‘Acceptance’ by Amiyah Jones, ‘Meaning’ by Tiegan Wollen, ‘Giving’ by Cooper Flatch and Greg McDonald, ‘Relating’ by Casey Somerville and Konnor Giroux, ‘Exercise’ by Kazzine Lane and Rayden Burton, and ‘Awareness’ by Casey Green and Wendy Wang.

The students explored the meaning behind the ten keys to happiness in their daily lessons, and the fair was a way for them to show off what they’ve learned to their peers, their teachers and the visiting public.  A silver collection was taken at the door, with proceeds benefiting the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.

Based on the outgoing attitude shown by students and the pride they had in showing their findings, perhaps it goes without saying that young students at Dinsmore Composite School are putting into practice what they’ve been learning.
