Chain Chatter

The Asessippi National Disc Golf Course 2 Disc Challenge will be held Friday, July 1, at north of Russell, MB.

It is the inaugural tournament for this course which was just put in this year. It is a full 18 course using homemade chain baskets.

The course is located 23km North of Russell on Highway #83

Entrants in the event, which will be played over two rounds, will receive a player's pack. As this is a 2-disc challenge, you will only be playing with the discs that you receive. This tournament is sponsored by Dynamic Discs. The Player's Pack with include a fairway driver and putter.

Whitesand in play

Disc golfers looking for a longer course to challenge can now head to Whitesand Regional Park, just northwest of Theodore.

The new course is now open for play, after completion of 18 tonals, utilizing repurposed 20-pound propane tanks.

The course follows the existing nine sand-green ball golf holes, creating the first dual-purpose course in the PADG. A dual-purpose course means both ball and disc golfers can be out on the course at the same time, although ball golfers are always afforded play through as they hit a ball further. So disc golfers are reminded to be courteous and watch for trailing ball golfers and to let them play through.

The new course runs out at around 7000-feet, and is initially being rated a Par-62.

The unique aspect of the course is that many of the tonals are nestled near the existing sand greens which play as out-of-bounds for disc golf. Land an approach on a sand green, add a stroke. The feature will increase the importance of approach placement.

Long grass on fairways is also to be considered OB. You add a stroke, and play from where it lies.

There is still some course marking to take place, and the Park concession will have discs available soon for visitors and first-time disc golfers to access.

A fun day of Solstice disc golf is planned for June 19. The idea is a simple one, rise early, and throw, throw, throw.

We are hitting the road that day, with plans to throw the courses at Sandy Beach, Springside, Whitesand Regional Park, Melville and then wind up back in Yorkton for 18 before the sun settles in the western sky.

Rocanville Doubles Tournament
