This year marks the 35th SUNFLOWER since its start in 1979. A smorgasbord of quality fine art and fine craft is offered by the 150 or so artists and artisans from near and far that set up shop in Yorkton's Gallagher Centre. SUNFLOWER Fine Art Craft Market is a must on your activity calendar, Friday, Sept. 6th & Saturday, Sept. 7th. The Yorkton Arts Council is proud the present the 39th "Stars For Saskatchewan" 2013-2014 concert series! Nine exciting concerts with something for everyone! "Memory Lane featuring Stephen Maguire" with hits of the 40's, 50's and 60's; Jeffery Straker, a dynamic singer-songwriter-pianist; Gordie MacKeeman and his Rhythm Boys for great old-time roots music; a very special Christmas show with Jimmy Rankin; the captivating ensemble singing of Musica Intima; vintage Vegas sounds with John Gracie; the upbeat performance style of string trio Infinitus; the artistry and musicianship of Guy and Nadina; and the amazing fiddle tradition and step dancing exuberance of Everything Fitz. Parkland Mall will be hosting their 3rd Annual Back to School Outdoor Movie Event on Thurs., Aug. 22 at dusk. The Outdoor Movie Event is free to the public. The Movie Event will give people of all ages an opportunity to enjoy their favorite movie in the comfort of their own park, while supporting a worthwhile community initiative. A terrific family event for the people of Yorkton. Approximately 400 people attended last year's event.

In recognition of our 35th annual SUNFLOWER, the Yorkton Arts Council is inviting creative expressions in any medium for HELIANTHUS XXXV, an exhibition at community pARTners gallery at the Yorkton Public Library. Detailed guidelines can be found online at www.yorktonarts.ca, as well as at the library or arts council office. Please register your interest by Aug. 15, with work to be submitted the week of August 21st, for display till the 21st of October. Collaborate, experiment, recycle, commemorate, reminisce, decorate, delight, celebrate! (Work must be ready to hang or stand alone, with some sunflower in it somewhere.)
