CANORA - Nate Wolos, who has excelled in academics as well as extra-curricular activities during his years at Canora Composite School, said, “I'm truly honored to be standing here as the valedictorian of the Graduating Class of 2024.”
Speakers often like to take care of the most important things right away, and for Wolos, it was to say, “Thank you. Thank you to the parents and family who supported me and the entire grade throughout all the years of school.
“Mom and Dad, thank you for always loving me, for pushing me to better myself. As I think back throughout all the days of school, I feel nothing but gratitude for the sacrifices you made. Parents, none of us would even be right here without your undying love and support.
“Thank you to the teachers for guiding me and helping me learn many lessons that will help me in life moving forward. You have all been incredible mentors, and I am truly grateful for your dedication to the students. Thank you for your patience, because I know firsthand how annoying and draining we can be. And lastly, thank you to my classmates.
“Thank you for the memories we created together through all the years of school. Graduation is not a solo achievement. Having people by your side to support you can make a world of difference. Thank you for celebrating this day here with me.
“Over all of the years, we have grown and changed in so many ways,” Wolos continued. “Each of our own unique experiences and achievements, both big and small, have collectively shaped who we are today. I think back and remember our first time coming into the school, with Mrs. [Leona] Kitchen showing us all of the hallways and rooms, thinking about what the future will be. Then the days turned into months, months into years, and now those hallways are filled with familiarity and memories. Throughout those years, we've all had our share of laughter and fun times. From recess or lunch breaks, to school activities and sports, they all have contributed to many memorable moments.
“Not only were memories made outside of the classroom, because inside rooms there was a perfect balance of learning and entertainment. Mrs. [Cindy] Sznerch’s labs in chemistry and physics were amazing experiences where we were able to see further into the process of many things, while also being able to have a great time working together.
“These moments remind us that while education is important, so too is the need to enjoy the journey and cherish the friendships we've formed. Through it all, we've learned some invaluable lessons. We've learned that success doesn't come without hard work and perseverance. We've learned the importance of supporting each other through tough times and celebrating each other's successes. Every single one of us has unique talents, passions, and dreams. As we all move forward with our lives, it is essential to embrace your gifts and follow your own path. Don't be afraid to pursue your own aspirations. The world needs creativity, innovation, and courage.”
Wolos showed an uncanny ability to read his audience.
“In my opinion, the best speeches are the ones that don’t drag on forever,” he said, “so I’m going to wrap things up right about here. I’m going to give a final huge thank you to my family, the teachers and classmates for always being here. We’ve accomplished so much together, and I have no doubt that we will continue to achieve great things throughout our lives. I truly believe that everyone in this graduation class will find success in the future, and I hope that life treats you all well. The future is not something that just happens to us. It is something we create.
“Congratulations to the class of 2024, our journey through life is only beginning.”
