Track Districts a successful meet for Invermay athletes

Invermay athletes on a roll, with five qualifying for provincials.

INVERMAY - Athletes from Invermay School brought home an impressive haul of high placings at districts in Yorkton on May 24-25, with a total of five students qualifying for provincials in Saskatoon on June 2-3.

Leading the way was Michael Mesias with four first place finishes in the peewee boys division: 100M, 200M, long jump and discus.

Aron Cudal captured first place in the senior boys long jump, and went on to add second place finishes in triple jump and javelin, and a third in 100M.

The senior boys discus was won by Nathaniel Minhinnick, who backed that up with a second in the 100M hurdles. Minhinnick was also the senior boys aggregate winner at districts.

Jesse Grychowski placed third in both the senior boys long jump and triple jump, fifth in javelin, and seventh in the 100M. Remi Fidek placed ninth in shot put and 12th in discus.

Angelo Ferenal took second in bantam boys 80M hurdles, third in the 200M and sixth in the long jump.

In junior boys, Lance Corpuz finished second in shot put and fifth in discus, while Chance Enge was fourth in discus and fifth in shot put.

Kashton MacLean placed seventh in triple jump, Weston Glas was 10th in discus, and Kyle Pena took 11th in the shot put.

The Invermay girls also had a great deal of success in Yorkton.

Marissa Fidek achieved second in intermediate girls javelin and 10th in shot put, while April Grychowski finished third in triple jump and fifth in long jump. Cassandra Ponte placed third in javelin, 10th in discus and 14th in shot put.

In junior girls action, Bailey Maier finished second in the high jump and seventh in long jump. Irish Ferenal was 11th in the 80M hurdles. Clouie Cabungcal placed ninth in the 80M hurdles and 16th in the long jump. Jam Regidor came in 14th in the shot put.

Rachel Enge picked up a third in senior girls javelin and a fifth in both the discus and the triple jump. Gwyn Cabungcal finished fourth in 80M hurdles, sixth in the 200M and eighth in the 100M. Hallie Pozniak was fourth in shot put and 12th in long jump.

In junior girls results, Taelynn Maier placed fourth in shot put and seventh in high jump, while Halo Engele added a fifth-place result in shot put. Madeline Glas achieved a third in javelin and a seventh in discus.

The peewee girls discus event resulted in a fourth-place finish for Cassidy Bosovich and a sixth for Janis Regidor.

Invermay student/athletes who qualified for provincials were:

  • Nathaniel Minhinnick in senior boys hurdles;
  • Aron Cudal in senior boys triple jump and javelin;
  • Bailey Maier in junior girls high jump;
  • Lance Corpuz in junior boys shot put; and
  • Marissa Fidek in intermediate girls javelin.
