CANORA - The Canora Town and Country Bonspiel was held at the Sylvia Fedoruk Centre on Jan. 26-28, and the suspense continued even beyond the final draw.
With 11 teams entered in the bonspiel, each played three games. After the completion of the three-game schedule, there was a four-way tie for first place between Zeno Gulka and Bob Kolodziejski of Canora, Kent Zuravloff of Buchanan, and Tim Olson of Preeceville.
Under the skins game format played at the bonspiel, each team chose one player for a draw to the button with no sweeping allowed, to determine the winner.
Lane Zuravloff delivered under pressure and came closest to the button, making the Kent Zuravloff team the Canora Town & Country Bonspiel champions. Team members were: Kent (skip), Lane (third), Len Puchala (second) and Sharon Ripa (lead).
Other local Canora teams entered were: Aaron Herriges, John Zbitniff, Terry Wilson, Don Probe, Lenny Bazarski, and Craig Ostafie. The Cayne Worobetz foursome of Yorkton rounded out the field.
With the skins format, each game was eight ends with points awarded to the winner of each end.
The first six ends were worth 10 points each, with 20 points up for grabs in each of the last two ends. The team with last rock had to count at least two to win the points for any end. As mentioned earlier, the tiebreaker at the end of any game was a button draw with no sweeping.
Then next curling action to look forward to in Canora is the Two-Person Stick Spiel, scheduled for Family Day on Feb. 20.
