CANORA - As is usually the case, Canora stepped forward when friends and neighbours needed help.
A Christmas in November Cabaret was held at Rainbow Hall in support of the Rewakowsky family and the Keinick family, who both lost their homes in a recent fire.
The Nov. 23 evening feature a pulled pork meal hosted by RCM Outdoors, as well as music from three talented bands: the acoustic duo, Crossroad Rhythm; oldies favourites by RocketBilly, and Prairie Revolt, a band from Preeceville and Canora that covers well-known punk and rock tunes.
The Rewakowsky family said they would like to send out “a very special and heartfelt thank you to our friends and community for your support and help through this difficult time in our lives.”
The Keinick family members also expressed their appreciation. “We would like to extend sincere gratitude for the wealth of support we have received. Canora has been our home for 17 years, and we feel like we truly belong. The outpouring of love cannot be measured as it helps to guide us through this unimaginable loss. Thank you.”
Organizers Amanda Thompson, Brandi Zavislak and Candace Doogan said there were many important local people and elements that contributed to making the evening a success:
• Del Paligan contributed 300 homemade buns for the pulled pork supper;
• All the bands provided excellent entertainment;
• Rainbow Hall donated the facility;
• Everyone who attended as well as those who sent cards and donations even if they were unable to attend;
• Those who have donated to the trust accounts and dropped off donations at the town office; and
• Friends and community members, Town of Canora workers and tourism committee workers who volunteered their time before, during and after the fundraiser event.
