CANORA - Ashley Davis, originally from Wynyard, is joining the teaching staff half-time at Canora Junior Elementary School.

Davis said she has been interested in teaching for as long as she can remember, and cultivated a wide range of pursuits during her formative years.

“My main interests while growing up were reading, crafting, and curling,” she said. “I also did a lot of babysitting and came to enjoy working with kids, which furthered my interest in teaching.”

One of Davis’ biggest joys in being a teacher is watching and helping students grow over the school year, “both academically and personally, and seeing those moments when students finally understand a challenging concept.”

After completing high school, Davis studied at the University of Alberta, Augustana Campus in Camrose, Alta.

“I received a bachelor of arts degree, with a double major in psychology and history. I then continued with the University of Alberta and earned my bachelor of education degree.

“Since then, I taught four years at Invermay School and two years at CCS, where I will also continue teaching half-time this year. I will be teaching arts, focusing on music, drama, and dance for Grades 1-4, and sharing health for Grades 2-4.”

Davis said she likes to read, bake and watch movies in her spare time.

“I've really enjoyed Canora so far. It's a nice community and I've enjoyed making it home.”
