CANORA - For the first time since 2018, the Parkland Music Festival was held in Canora, taking place at the Canora Composite School on April 12, 13 and 16.
At the final concert on April 16, Gillian Rice, Parkland Music Festival Recording Secretary, welcomed the performers and their families and friends, adding, “I am so proud of our community and how all the performers really ‘let their lights shine.’ I was a little concerned about that after a five-year absence, but everyone did so well.”
To open the final concert, Lowell Rice of Canora played Rainbow Fish on piano and received a scholarship from Better Than Before.
Seth Propp of Canora played Warp Speed on piano and earned a scholarship from Eighty-eight Keys Music Studio.
Claire St. John of Yorkton performed A Touch of Whimsy and won a scholarship from Gateway Co-op Ltd.
Elizabeth Stiles of Canora played Starfish as Night, winning scholarships from Glen and Nancy Leson, and Gateway Co-op Ltd.
Parade of Penguins was performed by Sophia Stiles, earning her a scholarship from Leanne Buchinski.
Lucy Chorneyko of Norquay recited Homework! Oh, Homework! She then played German Dance on piano, earning scholarships from KBS Customs and Repair, and the Town of Kamsack.
Catherine Chorneyko of Norquay played Rhyme Time on piano and recited Sick, taking home scholarships from Dandee-Care Natural Products, and Wilfred and Adeline Leson.
Anna Chorneyko of Norquay recited Anna Banana and played Hard Rock Candy on piano. She won scholarships from Bobyk Roofing and Canora Auto Service.
Arianna Kapitoler of Canora played the Mission Impossible Theme on piano and earned scholarships from St. Joseph’s CWL and Crossroads Credit Union.
Robots was performed by Emmett Kitchen of Yorkton on piano, winning him a scholarship from Canora Music Society.
Kacee Kitchen, also of Yorkton, performed A Summer Day and was awarded scholarships from the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League and Bobyk Roofing.
Emmett and Kacee then performed a duet called March of the Gremlins and won the Penguin Refrigeration Scholarship.
Cassie John of Yorkton played Dance of the Aborigines and was awarded scholarships from Canora Beach Developments and Parkland Christian Centre Inc.
Melodie in F Major was performed by Maycee Jucaban of Canora, who earned the Town of Kamsack scholarship.
Kylie Morin of Norquay played German Dance on piano and won the Beta Sigma Phi scholarship.
Rayleen Grace Young of Canora won the Lewis Cattle Oiler Scholarship and performed Baby Kangaroo.
Joseph Chorneyko of Norquay played Lemon Sherbert Rag and earned scholarships from Canora Equipment Rentals and Bobyk Roofing.
Lowell Rice of Canora and Lucas Vanin of Pelly won the Joanne Fidek scholarship for their piano duet March of the Gremlins but unfortunately they were unable to perform together at the final concert.
Kale Strelioff sang Silverado for Sale and played guitar, winning scholarships from the Town of Kamsack as well as Glen and Nancy Leson.
