SADD
On Oct. 18 and 19, six SADD Chapter members attended the SADD Provincial Conference at the Travelodge Hotel in Saskatoon. Angelo Ferenal, Madeline Graham, Michael Mesias, George Hilario, and Elissa Karcha applied and received a spot on Team SGI. The other student was Rebecca Karcha, who attended the conference with the Invermay SADD Chapter advisors Brenda Carbno and Cheng Teh.
Multiple guest speakers came from different regions of Canada, all sharing their stories. Along with one of these speakers, there was a workshop, teaching students how being involved in a vehicle crash can affect your life.
SADD Chapter Invermay is grateful we have set up sign boards along Highway 5 to remind people not to drink and drive. We sincerely thank SADD Chapter Melville for donating the boards, the Wadena Co-op for donating the materials for the setup, and the Village of Invermay for co-ordinating the setup. Special thanks to Rolen Marasigan and Kelly Grona for their hard work drilling the holes and putting up the boards.
Volleyball
Invermay School has been very active this volleyball season!
The Junior Girls Volleyball team played numerous exhibition games as well as attending many tournaments this season and they even had a second place finish at the Sturgis Tournament on Oct. 5. The girls then attended conferences on Oct. 17. Invermay won both sets against Kamsack, were neck and neck with Canora but fell short by just a couple points, and they won against Keeseekoose, securing the girls their spot at districts! The girls then wrapped up their season by attending districts in Sturgis on Oct. 26. They gave it their all and had an awesome ending for their volleyball season! Congratulations Junior Girls!
The Invermay Junior Boys concluded their volleyball season on Oct. 28. The team participated in three tournaments, achieving notable success at their home tournament, where they secured a first place win. Their competitive performance this year led the boys to finish second in conferences, providing them the opportunity to attend the district competition in Melville. Districts served as an invaluable learning experience and allowed the boys to compete against new teams such as Yorkton Regional and Esterhazy. The boys have put in countless hours of practice, demonstrating increased skill and a stronger sense of game strategy. Congratulations Junior Boys!
October was a busy month for the Senior Girls volleyball team. Beginning of the month, they travelled to Preeceville and Sturgis where the girls pulled off two successful wins. They then played in the Foam lake tournament. Middle of the month, the girls hit the road again to play Kamsack and Cote, winning both matches. The girls hosted a home tournament on Oct. 19 and placed second. Teams who attended the tournament included: Preeceville, Sturgis, Keeseekoose, and Canora. The hometown girls dominated the skills competition. The tournament was filled with great sportsmanship, camaraderie, and intermingling relationships that will last a lifetime. On Oct. 26, the girls were at the Canora tournament where they split into two teams. This gave all the girls a chance to stay on the court the whole day. The girls finished first and fourth.
On Nov. 2, they were scheduled to attend conferences in Sturgis. The Invermay girls were just one spot shy of advancing last year, so they were determined to earn a spot at Regionals this year. Good luck!
