The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 38 calls from December 9 to December 16, some of which included: two traffic accidents, eight provincial traffic offences, seven other provincial statutes, three 911 Act incidents, one break and enter, two assaults, two impaired driving, one mischief, two frauds, and 10 other incidents.
Mystery criminal
On December 9, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint that a house in Canora was broken into. Police attended to the reported scene of the crime but the complainant was not home and would not answer any phone calls. The followup investigation determined that there were no items stolen or damage done to the home.
Like talking to a brick wall
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded on December 11 to a report of an unwelcomed guest at a residence in Buchanan. Police attended and arrested a female who was on conditions not to be at that residence. The female was charged for failing to comply with her undertaking conditions and remanded into custody.
Impaired driver hits ditch
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of an impaired driver stuck in the ditch on White Sand Drive in Canora on December 11. Police attended and investigated the matter. The driver subsequently refused to provide a breath sample to police following an approved screening device (ASD) demand. The driver was charged for failure or refusal to comply with demand contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and his drivers licence was suspended.
Dangerous intentions
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint on December 13 that brake lines were purposely cut on a vehicle in Preeceville. Police continue to investigate. Icy collision
On December 13, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway No. 9 south of Sturgis. Investigation has determined that a minivan travelling south- bound lost control on icy road conditions which encroached into the opposing lane of travel causing the oncoming car travelling northbound to hit the rear driver’s side of the minivan. Three people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Another icy collision
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision in Canora on December 15. Investigation determined that the driver of a Grand Am failed to stop at a yield sign and was subsequently struck by an ambulance with its lights and sirens on, travelling on Norway Road. There were no injuries. Road conditions were icy at the site of the collision. Police continue to investigate.
