Founding members help celebrate 60 years for local church group

Four original members of the St. Joseph's Catholic Women's League received special 60-year pins at the special Canora mass.

CANORA - St. Joseph’s Catholic Women’s League members gathered at a special Canora mass this month to mark the 60th anniversary of signing the charter for St. Joseph’s Catholic Women’s League and to join the Catholic Women’s League of Canada.

Leading in the celebration of the mass was Father Joseph Kuruvilla as CWL Spiritual Director for the Canora branch.

Four of the original 23 ladies who signed the charter back in 1965 are still with us as members and were present to receive 60-year pins and signed certificates from the national office. The four members are: Anne Wyonzek, Evelyn Kuruliak, Sophie Fullawka and Julia Mazur.

Receiving pins marking 35 years of service were Adeline Leson and Arlene Lazaruk.

A ten-year service pin was awarded to Hélène Tremblay-Boyko.

Presenting the service pins to the recipients were Joan Kowalyshyn, organization chairperson, assisted by Liz Bahnuik, past president.
