The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 68 calls from Sept. 1 to 8, some of which included: three 911 Act calls, four false alarms, one Child Welfare Act call, two thefts, 20 traffic offences, two failure to comply with court orders, one fraud, 10 other provincial calls, five Mental Health Act calls, two mischiefs, seven suspicious persons, one missing person, and one harassing communications.
Moose collision
On Sept. 1, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of a vehicle versus moose collision in the RM of Preeceville.
Child found
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Sept. 4 to a report of a missing four-year-old in the RM of Hazel Dell. The parents located the child hiding in the dog house.
Impaired quad driver
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of a collision involving two quads in the RM of Good Lake on Sept. 4. Police attended and arrested a female for impaired operation. Police continue to investigate the collision.
Business theft
On Sept. 5, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint that a truck and trailer were stolen from a business in Canora. The trailer was recovered on a grid road outside Canora, however the white Ford F-350 is still missing and was last seen in Yorkton on Sept. 5 at 3:20 a.m. The F-350 says “McTavish Concrete” on the door with Saskatchewan licence plate 271 IML. Not trespassing
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Sept. 6 to a report of trespassing at a residence in Canora. Police attended and determined the suspect was cutting the grass and no offence was being committed.
911 prank calls
A male from Buchanan called 911 and yelled at the call taker about emergency alerts going off on his phone on Sept. 6. The RCMP reminds area residents it’s an offence under the Emergency 911 System Act “to call 911 to place a false, frivolous, or vexatious call.”
Mom was upset
On Sept. 6, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a report of screaming coming from a residence in Sturgis. Police were in the area and spoke with the homeowner who advised she was screaming at her kids who were fighting over the TV remote.
Empty-handed getaway
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Sept. 6 to a report of two female shoplifters at a business in Canora. Police attended, however the two female suspects had already left the area. The stolen items were found in a discarded bag along with needles and drug paraphernalia. Police continue to investigate.
